ubi so near your house jsut go down lorOriginally posted by MooKu:Actually my router has not been working well.
I contacted Aztech and support said it might be a power adaptor problem. They asked me to bring it to Ubi for a check.
The router isn't under warranty because the person who set up the router didn't mail it.
And so my sister was saying I might as well buy a new router since the current one is about 2 years old already...
Hmm Linksys... hmm ok.
Are there many kinds of routers?
Ok I think mine is the former.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:To answer your question, I don't know.
As far as I know, I only know of two kinds. One is the wireless type (you can turned it to wired if you want to)
The other one is a router integrated with a modem, the one I'm currently using.
it is a modulater demodulaterOriginally posted by MooKu:Ok I think mine is the former.
Erm, what does a modem do?
i lazy to go ubi... somemore no warranty, so if i have to repair it, it would make better sense to buy a new one..... erm, right? how much does a router cost?Originally posted by hisoka:erm linksys no good, d-link also no good.
both routers use awhile only will get erratic signal, disconnection and no internet access even if the signal is 100%
i think laser distribution is also as a retailerOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Linksys... good for newbies.
I always have a habit of sourcing out distributors instead of buying from retailers because it's cheaper.
For Sim Lim:
Laser Distribution has got good service and it's cheap enough.
Fuwell has got good service and they are knowledgeable enough. As a retailer, expect it to be slightly more expensive.
For Funan:
I find it too expensive. Neither is services good enough, maybe I'm just unlucky.![]()
Linksys ar... quite true.Originally posted by hisoka:erm linksys no good, d-link also no good.

A modem will need connect to the phone, dials out to your ISP before connecting to the Net.Originally posted by MooKu:Ok I think mine is the former.
Erm, what does a modem do?
i think netgear also same problem, think got try b4.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Linksys ar... quite true.
D-link no idea, never use before.
I found Netgear to be stable, but recently it seems to have gone haywire.
The 3Com that I'm using now is pretty reliable, so is Aztec. Trying to find a Prolink router to test, but nobody sponsors.
2Wire signals are super strong...
At Laser, it costs $70 oddOriginally posted by MooKu:i lazy to go ubi... somemore no warranty, so if i have to repair it, it would make better sense to buy a new one..... erm, right? how much does a router cost?
so what brand is good? i only know of Aztech and Netgear.
Oh so mine comes with modem and got wireless/wired option.... I think?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:A modem will need connect to the phone, dials out to your ISP before connecting to the Net.

Yup, you have to get one with a modem. I tried to do wireless for my 2 PCs and one laptop, only the laptop succeed in connecting to the Net. The 2 PCs die also don't want to connect until I get some cables to connect them.Originally posted by MooKu:Oh so mine comes with modem and got wireless/wired option.... I think?
Currently the one I'm using now, it's connected to a phone line, wireless turned on and connected to my PC so I don't have to go wireless.
So if I buy a new one, do I have to get one with a modem too?
If I buy one without a modem, does that mean I can cancel that phone line?
i think fuwell is also about this price...fyi usually the price gap will not be that much .Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:At Laser, it costs $70 odd
At Fuwell, it costs $90 (if my memory doesn't fail me)
Both of these are good.![]()
where is fuwell?Originally posted by niwde1980:i think fuwell is also about this price...fyi usually the price gap will not be that much .![]()
