If at all possible. Avoid Vista
This notebook lost points all because of Vista.
But overall, the specs and look of it is pretty sweet.
Not sure about Dell. Me not Dell user.Originally posted by smudgey:but norm you can request for them to change the Vista to maybe XP right?
na i won't wanna Vista too....Originally posted by M©+square:Not sure about Dell. Me not Dell user.
If it's possible, all is good. If this notebook is going to come with Vista - then it's your call loh.![]()
Look out for better specs notebook which you can afford but yet not too new in the market.Originally posted by smudgey:na i won't wanna Vista too....
so what sort of stuff should i watch out for at the IT show
I'm looking for cash and carry... (will it be very heavy ah?)Originally posted by M©+square:Look out for better specs notebook which you can afford but yet not too new in the market.
Most importantly, do your studies/research thoroughly so that you won't be lost and waste time on different sales presentation in the IT show.
For your usage, it's just about any notebook will do. But getting what you like is basically your personal preference.
If you've done your homework, the time spent in IT show will cut by half. Then you can look through more things in there.
Watch out for goodies?
Do you actually need anything?
If you're getting the notebook from IT show itself.
Usually upgrade of RAM or HDD and
free notebook bag
Printer? Voucher?
Are you going for cash n carry or installments?

Yeh Yeh the specs says its some super dual layer DVD but soon after Dual Layer (DL) hits mainstream Blu ray N HD-DVD were already introduced as the future of storage and digital entertainment. I will suggest you look at the cost of a DL media and youwill know that a DL writer is no difference from a DVD-writer, except chained and drown by the heavy iron-weighted price tag.Originally posted by smudgey:I'm looking for cash and carry... am also thinking of getting a external hardisk storage
it says that the Acer laptop comes with a DVD-Super Multi double-layer... do u know if it's a dvd writer?
Get the ones with Intel processor, then you can run MAC and Windows as and when you need it.Originally posted by Parka:Get the Apple Macbook.
Unless you're intending to install super high-end super rare softwares, e.g. SPSS, CAD, you most likely won't face any software compatibility problems.
With the Macbook, you'll seriously be more focus on your work because you won't spend half the time troubleshooting virus, spywares and crashes.
If you want to play games, I suggest getting an Xbox.
I've been on the both sides.

Talking weight, anything less than 2kg (usually with smaller display) should be consider light. But when you buy the notebooks, it will come with all other accessories including AC power cable and adaptor. So carrying them home will be a little 'heavier'.
I suggest for notebook you also check out the operating battery life per full charge. Since its a portable device and you may be using it for prolonged periods outdoor and without AC supply. If the battery is affordable getting a spare one is a wise decision.

Talking CAD (Computer Aided Design? I hope we are at the same frequency?), windows does fine. I don't know about Pro-E or Solid-works/ Solid-edge but most of those run on Windows platform fine.Originally posted by Parka:Again, unless one has very special software needs, chances are you're never going to need Windows.

Cheers!
Like square, please, no Vista. Only a few here have switched over to Vista and you will spend a lot of time just figuring out what's wrong with your laptop.Originally posted by smudgey:How about Dell???
