You can try using IE7. But with 248MB of RAM, I suggest not.
It's better to use Firefox, and just switch to using IE in Firefox by using IE Tab. If die die must use IE and it doesn't work, you can try this: Go to Start > Run and type in sfc /scannow
This will repair system files. Or just chkdsk /f
Windows will check your disks for errors on reboot and repair them if there are errors.

It will install automatically. Just need to restart Firefox.
