Buying Digital Camera, recommendations?

  Currently got my eyes on the Sony T10, but it seems like the new Canon models have got better functions/cutting edge technology.
  
  With a budget of around $500, what would you recommend?

  Actually I don't require any fancy functions, just a good digital camera.
  
  The functions that I require are pretty much the standards for any digital camera nowadays (I think?).
  
  - 7 MP and above
  - auto-focus
  - video capture 30fps and above
  - battery that lasts at least 5 hours?

  Fujifilm Finepix V10 5.1 megapixel $459
  Fujifilm F20 6.3 megapixel $499
  
  both good for night shots

  If you're dead set on the Sony T10, I would recommend the Nikon Coolpix s8 instead.
  
  It has virtually the same specs as the T10, but at $100 less.
  
  But if compactness is not a major issue to you, you might want to go for the Casio Exilim, which is around $450.

  I do want to share some experience besides getting a good camera.
  
  Always get a camera with handstrap if not it may slip and 'fell' into the grand canyon. Always make your photos look good by havving a bunch of friends to say they are good in the forums.
  
  With the 2 above pointers even if you get a cheap camera you will always capture great photos.
  
  And you won't believe it coz i am LOL as i type these words

  T10 is quite good, pictures are clear and nice, but the battery life is quite short..
  
  - 2-3 hrs onli i think...
  - its night shots are not very good.

  i used to use fujifilm, i wun recommend fujifilm
  
  i think nikon is good......even panasonic lumix oso quite ok

  FujiFilm F20 at MS Colour can get at 399, come with 512MB XD

  Hmm initially I wanted to get a T10, but somehow got kinda enticed by the Canon powershot models.
