Question about 2 core system...

Hi... me presently running a core 2 duo system using single channel Ram (1GB)..... Keep having software problem. WinXP refusing to shut down or reset...... stating ''ccap program" or something not shutdown. Sometimes the DvD rom refuse to work or my Power DvD hung halfway during a show. When using my old P4 single core system, no such problem occur.
A friend of my suggest that since a core duo system have 2 core, then better to run it with 2 Ram in double channel mode.
Have anyone out there got any suggestion
Is my friend right A 1GB 6400 Ram isn't cheap...... last check $160. So, anyone have any idea -

i believe u also use norton antivirus right?
it is the auto protect and email scanning thing, i oso have problem cos i disabled norton. now when i uninstalled norton, no problem liao

I recalled reading someone posted about the norton antivirus on the other fourm stating that Processor with HT(Hyper-Threading) Technology & probably Dual core processor is no compatible with it.
