Ok, if ur drive is somehow being disable, ur device manager should show u that drive with a "red X" over it.
Now, that u said there is none of those, meaning ur laptop cannot see the drive. U tried system restore also no use, meaning its not the driver or software problem.
Its very common that the disk drive data cable is loose even if it is a new pc.
So, either u use external disk drive, or u open up ur laptop to unplug the data cable and re-plug it in. -
Or u can send it back to hospital to let them tighten the cable for u ... u still got the warranty, right ?

or , the cable just loose by itself ( happaned to me when i was using Dell )... -

Open up Notepad. Please use Notepad and no other editors or I don't know what will happen.
Copy and paste the following in bold into Notepad:

I forgot one extra step:
Double click on it to merge with your current registry.
It will prompt you, when prompted, click Yes. -

See if there is an UpperFilters value on the right hand side.
If yes, delete UpperFilters.
Also try uninstalling any CD/DVD burning software and reinstall it again. -

hmm, if u want u can check that your motherboard detected your disc drive while bootup.. if it can't be detected.. i suspect that something wrong with the hardware.. isn't sure which one..(maybe the cables? lots of possibilities which i afraid that i can't conclude)
to check, reboot computer, press f8 while your manufacturer splash screen is up... den go under boot sequence.. if u can see your disc drive then its fine.. if can't, seek for your manufacturer for better assistance -
