Dear TS, this happens to any of the ISP from over the world.. for eg. people from US. conneting to singapore.
take a look at this pic for instance.
as u can see... i ping www.eurpa.jp from using my computer..
i dont actually directly connect to the server.. but i hop from server to server to get to my main destination. eg:
from my computer i connect to starhub,
from starhub connect to japan server,
from japan server connect to USA server.
and from USA server, i connect to their intranet europa.jp
if any of the server lags in between the route, the latency will be accumulated subsequently.
take for instance , starhub server connects to Japan. as u can see the ping suddenly jump from 18 to 100.. and internally in their country, it further jump from 100 to 218.
this means that the connectivity in their country internally is bad. because of this, your ping has accumated by 200+ before japans connects to USA.
Japan then connects through gate from chicago with 200+ ping behind her.
and then internally in USA, as it hops into many servers and gateway, finally the ping has accumulated to 300+.
this happens similar if europa.jp connects to my computer too.
