Transferring Data

  I have 2 huge files (738MB and 2.38GB files) that I wish to transfer from a Desktop to a Laptop. How can I go about doing it?
  
  - Desktop only have a CD-writer, no DVD-writer.
  
  - Uploading to file-hosting takes very long( forget about Email attachments)
  
  - I have no external harddrive.
  
  Is there some sort of transfer cable (USB-type) that can help me accomplish the task? (me comp-n00b so not sure about such stuffs)

  what my class does is we use cross-over cable to connect to each other
  
  and we will copy our files over to the sharing folder
  
  as for the data transfer speed..i am not sure about the speed of the transfering
  
  thats what i know..maybe the rest have some better solutions than me

  Is your laptop bluetooth capable?
  
  If so, get a bluetooth dongle for your desktop and transfer files using bluetooth technology...

  got hook up both computer wif a cross cable.
  
  wait for them to get a ip
  
  usually 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
  
  den go share the folder where the files is located.
  
  den go to the other computer. type \\169.xxx.xxx.xxx
  
  *might prompt u for login
  
  den u see ur folder
  
  den u copy and paste

  connect computers using USB to USB cable
  
  crossover cables
  brief ex: crossover cables are different from ethernet cables. they look the same but the ordering of the wires placed is different

  Yup the laptop is bluetooth-enabled and the desktop has a external bluetooth device then can be plugged in; but like thoreldan has said, it'll take a lonng time! I tried it and well, too much time!

  Yup, I was thinking of the connecting 2 computers using a USB cable and from that link I realised I can't just use a normal A/A one, else it'll spoil the comps! So, I'll settle with the Bridged A/A USB cable then.
  
  Another question, if both are available at SLS, which will be more cheaper? The cross-cable or Bridged A/A USB cable?

  Get ethernet cable, connect to both ends RJ-45, set up a network at "my network places". transfer file.
  
  Basically most people with a portable external hard disk can do all the transfering anyway they like so transfering files even up to 10~20 GB should not be a problem to most computer users at all if they have the hardware.

  cross over cables cheaper( cos no need motherboard in the middle like usb to usb one).. u can buy the already made cross overcables or can ask the uncle in sim lim to DIY.... i think these DIY cables exist in those ulu ulu shops
