A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart

Yesterday when I on my computer I was greeted with this message "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart". I tried restarting a few times but I still keep on getting the same message. I then used my bro laptop to go google about this problem. Seems like this problem has been around for very long but no one knows what's the exact cause and how to solve it.
Firstly, I checked that all the cables to the hard disks are connected properly. Then I backup my 160gb master drive (the one having the problem) to my slave drive then tried to format it. But after the press any key to continue the comp will hang at the black screen and I have no choice but to restart(someone also posted about this on the net). I then booted using my slave drive and fixboot fixmbr and chkdsk /r my master drive but still I still get the same problem.
Now I'm using my slave drive as my main and accessing data from my master drive(the master drive can work but just can't boot from it
). Anyone know how to solve this problem?? Thanks in advance

Try checking your disk for errors.
Start > Run and type in chkdsk /f -
It's not a virus...and I chkdsk already...When I go home I will download some programs to checky the hard disk

Bah nothing seems to help.. I will just call the company I bought the harddisk from and request them to change a new one for me tomorrow..All my files noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

wah lao..hafta ship the hard disk to seagate then somemore the shipping fee I hafta pay myself..luckily i check speedpost webby le $1.50 nia ..tomorrow i go call them see how issit..if okay I go send over..anyway they say the Replacement products are factory-repaired units..is it common?i think the service really sucks lar..last time graphic card spoil go sim lim square they exchanged a new and even better one for me straight away..
