@TS can try seocnd hand shops in sim lim.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:SDRAM is SDRAM. DDR RAM is DDR RAM. You can't mix both. You will need to get SDRAM. But they are quite expensive nowadays, due to the rarity of SDRAM.
The maximum amount of RAM your motherboard can hold is 3GB.
whats the specification of your new ram?Originally posted by Gordonator:recently i upgraded my RAM capacity to 512MB.
i'm using PC133 SD RAM. my motherboard have 3 RAM slots. previously i have three 128MB inside so total 384MB. a few weeks agao i took out one 128MB and insert in a 256MB making it total 512MB.
but i encounted some problems. when i took out the RAM and insert in the 256MB, the CPU refuses to boot up. i have to trial and error took out all the RAM and insert it back at different slot to make it boot up.
i wanna know how come like that? mayi can help?![]()
And I am aware there is a fan in the CPU. How long will it last usually? Anyway to check its functionality or need to install additional one?For very long. Functionality wise, if nothing is wrong with your PC, it's an indication all is well. You can add more, provided there slots for it.
Just curious, how old is this PC already? And are all of them using either PC100 or PC133 RAM?Originally posted by Gordonator:recently i upgraded my RAM capacity to 512MB.

PC133 SD RAM.Originally posted by manyu882:whats the specification of your new ram?
1. running at which frequency
2. DDR-SDRAM or DDR-RAM
No beeping sounds I presume?Originally posted by Gordonator:PC133 SD RAM.
of course must be the same of else not compatible.
but i don't understand why cannot boot up after putting in new ram.![]()
my PC is 6 years old.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Just curious, how old is this PC already? And are all of them using either PC100 or PC133 RAM?
I know some really old PCs cannot afford to have different standards of RAM slotted in. This means that PC133 and PC100 do not go together, either all uses PC100 or all uses PC133.
When it doesn't boot up, does it give out any beep sounds?
no beep sound.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:No beeping sounds I presume?
Then I guess it's just the RAM. RAM and RAM slots are notoriously known for giving out problems. They seem to be choosing partners, only this and that RAM stick will work for this slot, others don't. Otherwise, it's the RAM stick itself choosing partner. Only this RAM slot will work, put it in other slots, it gives you errors.
This kind of problems is best solved by trial and error.
Yes, it will work, in theory. Because both type of RAM are of the same standard, which is SDRAM. The only difference is their speed, one at 100MHz, the other at 133MHz. If two different speeds are detected, the motherboard will automatically use the slowest available speed, in this case, at 100MHz.Originally posted by Gordonator:my PC is 6 years old.
before i insert in the new RAM. i'm was using three 128MB SD RAM for the past 4 years. till recently i found out that out of the 3 RAM, 2 are PC133 and one is PC100.
therefore i took out the PC100 123MB and insert in the new PC133 256RAM. the PC finally manages to boot up.
but what really strange is that my PC have been running with 2 PC133 RAM and 1 PC100 RAM for the past few years.
theoretically speaking is this even supposed to work?
You are welcome.Originally posted by Gordonator:no beep sound.
thanks for the enlightenment. cleared my doubt.![]()
