What's a good laptop to get?

Okay few days ago I posted something about ram and before i could even do it my desktop died. Hard disk corrupted, windows logo loops back to intel screen non-stop.
So I am thinking of getting a laptop now which is good since I can use it in school. Just wondering what's good?
Not that I want to sound like a brat who knows nuts about computers but here's what I can best describe what I want:
-budget-2.2k
-Comes with an okay graphics card, able to play future games(but not say must highest settings, medium can already)
-hard disk 100gb around there
-1k ram
about there eh. Someone recommended Fujitsu E8210rp to me.

When the new term starts, I will be in SP year 1. I purchased the Fujistu E8210 too.

in a nutshell, u will have 128mb of graphics.
fujitsu graphics card is 256mb shared memory. it means u can use 256mb MAX of your computer memory for your graphics. which is 1gb - 256mb = 768mb of RAM. in a nutshell, u will have 256mb of graphics.
i understand from the other SIMILAR DAMN thread that they are offering and additional 256mb for fujitsu laptop E8210. which means 1.256gb - 256mb = 1gb of RAM while still having 256mb of graphics memory.

1. invest more toward the CPU <<
2. ram for etc now max is 2GB with 2 slot
i still waiting for 1 ram 2GB 667mhz to be in market
all newer type of laptop board able to support up to 4GB. (1 example is dell m1210 if upgrade to 4gb u need to pay nearly S$4k)
3.GPU [no comment on ati x1400 only low class)
4. harddisk? wait for hitachi 2.5" 120GB 7.2krpm 8mb cache sata2/ide
that one sure booast ur game expericence.
go for external for back up

I personally prefer Apple...

Now prices have dropped so freaking much for laptops. The best are Acer or HP, don't buy those with Vista. None of offical copany use Vista, use XP Pro, it is more compatible with others computer during for data transfer.
Vista slows down your com and consume processes and memory, but you can configure XP to speed up your com.
Don't buy Fujitsu or Dell, they sucks in expensiveness, design and weight. Vaio is good but ex.
Look for features supported. -

It's how you look at it. Vista looks much cooler.
But infact, it has got alot to do with consumer's usage behaviour. -
Talking about Vista, Vista definitely handles resources much more better than the other versions of OSes MS has produced. It's the way they handle startup programs that greatly improve the performance of Vista.
Although Vista has lots of process starting, only a few are under startup, so memory resources could be given priority to them, rather them to all processes that are listed in the Task Manager.
Vista fancy looks is what kills this good memory management. The aero looks of Vista, is actually very similar to the KDE desktop in Linux. KDE desktops in Linux has a glassy look, which MS has copied (not entirely, just the idea and named it Aero). Some Linux users will tell you that KDE does in fact slow down the PC a lot, and GNOME, Xfce or IceWM is preferred. I myself prefer Xfce, looks nice and doesn't use up of resources.
Compatibility issue wise, it's a step backward because not many are as enthusiastic when compared with XP. When XP was released, it was supported by most hardware. Drivers were also readily available. Same for software. The reason for this is because it's based on Windows NT and Windows 2000. Programs that work on these platforms will work on XP.
On the other hand, Vista is being completely rewritten. It's being completely overhauled. Hardware wise, the minimum is based on 2002 PC standards. Since Vista is being overhauled, drivers have to be rewritten as well. Softwares have to be completely rewritten since Vista is being rewritten as well. It takes time to write and test the programs, so don't expect everything to be in order until at least the mid of this year.
Coming to the issue on Mac laptops, I would hardly agree on viruses. Those who surf carefully, practise safe hex should have no problems. This applies to those using Windows as well. As long as one practises good computer practices, nothing will hurt your PC. Windows is more vulnerable because it has the majority of the market share, and it makes sense to attack them. As Mac starts gaining popularity, the number of critical fixes have also been found. Same for Linux, as it's also a Unix-based OS. If something can attack Mac, Linux won't be spared.
Compatibility issues on Mac isn't a great problem, as most companies will release a Mac compatible program. Books on using Mac are widely available, same for resources. This is not quite true for games, as not all games are compatible. Since Mac has moved over to use Intel chips, expect game support to improve, at the same time, keep your fingers crossed. Programmers cater to the majority, not minority, so if the games situation on Mac doesn't improve, just install Windows on Mac, using Boot Camp.
