urgent question about LAN connection playing warcraft

  ermm i wan to ask..how to make a lan connection so that i can play warcraft with my bro on the 2nd com? heres what i did but the host de game didnt show up..>plug in telephone line thingy into my ethernet port>connect the end of it to my router port 1>connect 2nd telephone wire thingy into com 2 ethernet port>connect the end into the router port 1>router connected to modem>modem connected to my telephone port thingy...i did that and still the game didnt show up..i am a noob in net stuff..pls help me..no " " replies pls serious serious
  
  after i posted the main topic in chit chat area..some guy asked me to download hamachi..i dled it and how do i use it..can anyone guide me how to use it to play warcraft with my bro?
