internet connection

  hi. im using starhub internet and a pci wireless router. both of my pc is connected thru ethernet cable. y izzit quite often my LAN settings show tat im connected to e internet. hwever im unable to surf e net. my IE keep shows tat im not connected. both of my pc oso shows e same problem. what is wrong? e ip n e gateway is all correct. i oso trying to ping. but to no avail. can some1 pls help?

  I always had this problem too until I upgrade to 3rd party firmware. After that I dun encounter this problem anymore. Go google for tomato or thibor firmware..

  Some routers must manually connect to the Net.
  
  Find out your default gateway and type that address into your browser.
  
  Log in and find the part that allows you to connect and disconnect the router from the Net.
  
  If it doesn't work, you will have to install drives. Since you said you are using a PCI wireless router, chances are necessary drivers for this router are not installed. Get the CD out and install the drivers and reboot if necessary.

  whom u ping?
  
  this could mean that your router is not connected to internet..
  
  the one u are looking as "connected" is between your computer and your router. however, from your router to your modem has no connection.
  
  try pinging to your router? do u recieve replies?
  if it has, concluded that there is a connection problem between your modem and your router in the period of time.

  hm. but i connect thru lan cable. then sometimes can, sometimes cannot. hm. everything is install hao le. hm. i ping by goin to command prompt n ping a website. how do i ping e router. which router is better? maybe i shld get another router? PCI is givin me headache.

  bro, are u using bittorrent?
  
  Bittoreent will lagout maxonline user. This makes them "DC" althought it show network connected.

  ur PCI router...I take it that ur ethernet cable is plugged into the PCI router at the back of ur PC...U sure ur router driver is working properly?go to the manufacturer's webiste and update the driver.
  
  cannot ping to outside address basically means not connected to internet liao...
  try " ping www.starhub.com " at command prompt...if U dont get a positive reply...means U not connected.
  
  and ur ethernet cable is straight cable?

  hm. is not cannot work leh. is can. but once in a while will have problem. like no able to connect to e internet. i guess there is nth wrong with e lan cable. i just can't figure out.

  U know the IP address of ur router?
  
  assuming ur router IP is 192.168.1.1
  type in " ping 192.168.1.1 " at command prompt to ping ur router.
  
  if U can get a positive reply....go to ur internet browser and type in the same router IP as the address(example http://192.168.1.1) to see the login page of ur router.

  there is a remote chance that ur LAN cable is not crimped properly...if U are sure that all else is working fine.

  Do this in command prompt:
  
  Type in ipconfig and press Enter.
  
  Ping the default gateway.
  
  Can you ping it?
  
  If yes, ping some other websites.
  
  If you fail at this step, type in your default gateway IP address into your browser and connect manually.
