Need help opening My Documents.

Few months ago , i did a computer upgrade. Then i bought a new HDD n installed a new operating system. But now , my old operation system i deleted everything except the My Documents folder which contained MANY of my important stuffs.
But now it says access denied. I know windows has some protection over it , but is there ANY way i can get around it n access whats inside ? N copy them all out. i NEED the datas and project infos inside it..

Try adding yourself to be part of the administrator or system group.

anyways , the original OS is gone. left that particular folder. N teh new OS doesnt allow it to be opened. I tried renaming one of my logins users as the same name as the folder but FAIL.
btw.. its in the other HDD . -

Have you tried adding the old HDD into your computer and try accessing the old HDD through the new HDD?
Set your new HDD as Master and the old HDD as slave. After running the new operating system in the new HDD, the new operating system should be able to detect the old HDD as secondary drive. Just double click on that old HDD and copy the files you want over to your new HDD.
After that, do whatever you want with it. Either you remove the old HDD from your computer or you format it and use it.

Under "Change owner to:"
Click on one of those listed and click "apply" or "OK"
Close the property window and reopen
>>>Choose PROPERTIES>SECURITY>ADVANCE>PERMISSIONS
Select Allow inheritable...
Click on ADD and add EVERYBODY with Full Control -

Well, the old OS was installed in the old HDD , so now the new OS is installed in the new HDD so i delected all the WINDOWS files in the old HDD except the MY DOCUMENTS section cause all my files are in it. N also , that folder is under a username that has password. I try Andrew Yap's idea see can work or not. I know its hard for those that never see the problem to diagnosis . -

i am now using the OS installed in the NEW HDD. The old HDD has the old OS lo. So now i useing the new HDD to boot. Deleted most of the files in the old HDD leaving the My Documents. N now cant access it lo. -

Is your old and new HDD connected via IDE cables?
If yes, take out the old HDD, and set the jumpers to slave and plug it back in.
Try and see if the old HDD is being detected. -

Probably have to pay a few hundred bucks to recover them through professional services. -

the HDD is fine.. just i cant access the folder. its like encrypted to the previous OS. And i got sensitive material ma.. n if want to extract i have to be there to watch them extract ler.. sigh..

When you right click on the OLDMYDOC folder, what do you see? BTW what OS are you now booting up from and what OS was it previously? -
another thing, connect your OLDHDD to the CDRom cable and not the same cable as you NEWHDD

my old HDD no kaput. Its when i decided to upgrade computer into core 2 dup that i decided to throw in a new 180 gig ma. So decided to use it as new OS n clean ma. When you right click on the OLDMYDOC folder, what do you see? BTW what OS are you now booting up from and what OS was it previously?
both is windows XP. -
So you mean u only DELETE all the files in old HDD (Except the file you wanted) via the New HDD lah. You did not format the old HDD in order to remove the previous old OS rite?
