Windows Live Messenger doesn't work on my vista =/

Guys anyone could offer some suggestions? I just bought a new laptop with vista business.
Downloaded live messenger, but can't sign in. ERROR CODE : 81000306. Switched off all my windows firewall and norton firewall, and i can surf the internet, but i still can't sign in. Even tried the connection troubleshooter in msn, everything's working alright.
Much appreciated if anyone could help

No 4 means that you may need to set Windows Live Messenger as the exception. -
Turning on two firewalls at the same time can lead to problems. Hence, just turn on one will do.
To configure Windows Firewall,
Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> Uncheck "Don't Allow Exceptions" -> Exceptions Tab -> Uncheck "Windows Live Messenger"
To configure Norton Firewall,
1 Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
2 In the right pane, click Personal Firewall.
3 Click Configure.
4 Click the Programs tab.
5 To select all of the rules on the Programs tab, click one rule and press Ctrl+A on the keyboard. If the Manual Program Control list is empty, click Program Scan and skip to line 9 of this STEP.
6 Click Remove.
7 Answer Yes to each of the two dialog boxes as they appear.
8 After the program rules are removed, click Program Scan.
9 In the Program Scan dialog box, check the box next to each of the hard drives and partitions that are listed. Click Next.
10 The scan progress is shown. The scan may take up to 10 minutes to complete.
11 After the Program Scan finishes, click Check All.
12 Click Next.
13 In the final Program Scan window, click Finish.
14 Click OK. -
The only trick I know:
Right click, Run As Administrator.
Nothing works, dump that PC, build another one and install XP. -

Meaning right click what? Yeah i know vista has problems, just got this thing for mobility's sake. Thank goodness for my desktop

Right click on Windows Live Messenger, select Run as Administrator. -
they should have make it an optional option for uses to enable UAC at start... this problem makes people irritating.. esp for those who know nothing or little about computers.

I dont support Microshucks. Just that my work requires Microshucks to be used. -

it doesnt come with vista. i managed to log on like yesterday, but today its giving me the same problems again.

I encountered that problem as well the include exceptions alternative doesn't work.. you can however d/l a particular patch from windows live messenger site which will allow u to use the prog.. works.. I've tried it and am happily using my msn chat again

Problem solved. Microsoft called and gave me a string of letters to type in MS-DOS.

wonder if i went to the correct site, since it seems that under System Requirements, it didnt indicate that it supports Windows Vista, only for Windows XP.

If you want a Vista version, there's a WLM clone. aMSN. It's now at RC1 and it looks pretty good.

Is it USB? Or some other types of connection? If it's USB, it should be automatic. If it's other types of connection, you will need to install the necessary drivers (which most manufacturers don't support).Originally posted by Mospeada:I hate Vista...
