Windows Genuine Advantage Notification

  i got this from windows update:
  it calls me to install a Windows Genuine Advantage Notification.
  it certenly does'nt look like it will help my computer in anyway...
  
  well, apperantly, i can be installed it but not uninstalled. clicking on the link provided linked me to a chinese ms site. its not that i cant read chinese, but y will ms point me, in singapore, where english is a universal language to a chinese site?
  
  got suspicious so went to google it. There is such a thing. but if this spyware is installed on a computer running a illegal windows, it will lock up the desktop with a message that says that ur windows in not genuine. no forgetting that it does take up ram(very precious stuff)
  
  but the installer tells me that if i don't install, i will not recieve some updates in the future. so, Should I Install This Spyware?
  
  fyi, i run a legal copy of ms windows xp, but also installed flyakite osx. Is my version of XP still "genuine"?

  I don't see any reason why it goes to a Chinese site.

  actually, the chinese site thing is secondary...
  
  the primary issue here is should i install it?
  cos i will not be able to uninstall it...

  If you are going to update Windows, WGA will be automatically installed, whether you like it or not. It's Microsoft program to prevent piracy. You can't uninstall it, unlike previously.

  It will. If you set your language preference even on an English operating system to define Chinese/other languages over English.
  
  If English [US] is not set as default, it will affect the microsoft update page to load in chinese.

  I read what it was trying to do. I rejected installation immediately.
