hereNot to worry though. Like i wrote you can get an ATA controller card for less than sgd100 and get another IDE drive spining at 7200 rpm and use them in your system without any trouble. Otherwise you may want to write to Acer asking for the motherboard specs of your ELD and if it supports ATA100 hard disk @7200 rpm.
However if you just want to expand your storage by having a an external backup hard disk you can mod one yourself or get one from manufacturers like Iomega and Maxtor/ Seagate. However most of the newer hard disks like the IDE and SATA ones are going at high speed USB2.0 so you may still want to get an internal PCI high speed USB controller card to avoid possible stability issues.
