PC PROBLEMs >.<"!

Here's the breakdown.
My stupid PC failed to boot up last night after emitting a few "cluck cluck" sounds.
Opened up the damned thing and found out that it was the hard disk.
After replacing everything and reboot...
It gives me this :
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
So I called up IBM. They gave me a few options :
1. Call an on site guy down for consultation $220(excluding parts) ...siao.
2. Bring the PC down to their diagnostic center ($50) and asked me to prepare to get a replacement harddisk which is $498(before gst)...siao
3. Find a replacement harddisk which may be compatible to their set and bring down to their diagnostic center and borrow recovery disk to install OS -windows xp (which may or may not work)... >.<"
4. Get a new PC. (sigh..)
Ok I wanna be able to retrieve the data inside of the old harddisk. Which is why I am hesitant to do a system wipe. Is there any way to repair the harddisk without getting a new one ? Or any way to try to transfer the data out before doing a system recovery ?

I just called up one of my friends. He said harddisk may not have died yet. So may still be able to retrieve the data.
thats the best news i got all day. >.<
He asked me to reinstall the OS. Which I dont have. Cos it comes pre installed. Sigh. -
option 3 is more logical for now...
U get a compatible HDD and installed your OS ..then plug in your current HDD as a slave and see if you can pull the data out.
Unless u want to get a new pc ..and ask the experts to dig out data from your old HDD.... -
it could be yr hard disk spoil or OS corrupted
which OS u using ?
do u have yr OS disc with u ?
if yes to the above u still can try repair the disk -
plug your harddisk into your friend's PC as slave harddisk. perhaps, still can retrieve the old data

I called up those ppl again. She told me if I can get to the rescue file/disk/something I might be able to do something. Tonight I go home try again. Wish me luck >.< -
