Qn on my internet connection

i'm currently using hubber and uses ethernet cable. last time i could use my notebook connect to the cable to surf web. But last thur, i could not use ethernet cable to surf web. i checked and it says no default gateway.
be4 this incident happened, i did smth with the network thing. i think it was the bridge connection thing tt i fondle with.
btw, my notebook is running on vista.

Bridging connections? You will have to unbridge...
1. Disconnect from the Internet.
2. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
3. Right click on your connection and select Remove from bridge.
4. Restart the PC.
5. Go to Start > Run and type in cmd
6. Type in ipconfig. If you see an IP address that starts 169.X.X.X, your router has a problem. Reset the router. If you see a default gateway such as 192.168.X.X, go to your web browser and see if you can start configuring it. -
prob is even when i connect my ethernet cable to the notebook, it shows no network connection leh. but the taskbar thr shows 'unidentified network'

btw, can i ask 1 more qn? everytime when i open my firefox, they would show 2 tabs. 1 tab showing i've updated to the latest firefox,and the other showing firefox search engine.
how can i remove the first tab??? -
