svchost.exe

  i have no ideas why 1 of my svchost.exe process suddenly rises to 50,000K and it made my comp lagging, infact it was my taskbar lagging.
  
  I exited it and problem was solved, but now it affected my sound card!! when i try to adjust my sound/volume settings, it says "There are no active mixer devices avaliable. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close.".
  
  this problem came after i installed msn live messenger 8.5 beta. i tick "always allow" when Comodo ask...for the 'svchost.exe'
  
  anyone can help me??

  my fren have same problem
  
  after scanning wid AVG antivirus, found that his SVChost.exe was infected
  
  hw have more than 3 svchost.exe running @ the same time
  
  btw, are u a dell user?

  You just ended the process that handles sounds.
  
  Technically, it should come back, because Windows doesn't allow it to be ended. But since it didn't came back, you have to restart your PC. This also means you have some settings turned off, and may land you in deep trouble if your PC ever gets a virus attack.

  last time dun have this prob, why now have???? zzzz
  
  this process not only slow my comp, it still lag my taskbar...
  i ended the process then the thing i did with my taskbar(e.g right click), it all came out after i ended the process...
  
  yes, the process still comes back after i restart, then the lagging of the taskbar repreats itself again....
  
  did system restore yesterdate night, tot it was fixed, but try again today, still equally sarks.

  it's normal. some have more than 3.

  It's normal to have more than 3 because svchost handles nearly everything in Windows.
  
  As I've said, look at the above link given.
  
  Looking at what tasklist.exe gives you won't help.

  I don't know if I have fixed the problem leh...the crashing don't happen that often...
  
  probably 1 of the reason is because I closed the Auto Update thingy.

  Auto update is the cause of headaches...
  
  Unless of course you got other softwares which are buggy.
