thanks mayi...i got a small problemOriginally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Download XAMPP and set up your PC as a server to try out the scripts and install MySQL. It's very easy, but there's no such thing as click click click. You write your own scripts.
Or if you would prefer a book, get Beginning PHP, published by Wrox. It's red in colour, with human faces as the front cover.
No... XAMPP doesn't require IIS... because it's a totally different kind of server...Originally posted by StarPuppy:thanks mayi...i got a small problem
XAMPP requires IIS right? I dun have Win XP Pro CD to activate IIS..is there anyway i can activate IIS?
i know wat you mean, i have a book which is also from Wrox..which teaches Beginning Programming![]()

yeah :lo:Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Your school very weird, trained in MySQL but all these languages basically don't match.
You sure it's MySQL and not MSSQL?
MySQL is open-sourced, MSSQL is by MS... not free.
Since you are trained in mostly MS languages... then go with MS.
hmmm...actually i am quite comfy with Javascripting however what i am doing requires database so i was thinking..can javascripting use on database?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:No... XAMPP doesn't require IIS... because it's a totally different kind of server...
XAMPP is totally open-sourced, and uses another server known as Apache... (that's what the A in XAMPP stands for)
And don't get Beginning Programming... one of the most useless books by them in my opinion... it gives you headstart... but not exactly a headstart.
VB - Not obsolete, but not the programmer's choice. Because it's pretty limited, although one can create great programs with it.Originally posted by StarPuppy:yeah :lo:
its like i go where the flow goes...
School teaches
VB.ASP (dunno if VB is ASP or is different)
Javascripting
MYSQL
HTML
sometimes i dunno wad my school is teaching, i heard from those who are working that most of wat they are teaching now is useless in the working world( as in they dun use it anymore) ..just teach anyhow just to get their pay packets![]()
