Help... anyone?

Hiya guys, me again... just wanna ask if anyone can help me with my comp woes... My comp is behaving weirdly lately...
During the intial startup(as in the moment you press power button), my comp kinda goes into its usual frenzy of HDD running and stuff. But about a second later, the power seems to cut off abruptly and restart again, comp still starts, except this time the BIOS doesnt kick in and i'm stuck at the preBIOS state.
Happened to me once before, turns out to be too much dust gathered on RAM1. But now, its different, cant get it to start up at all... anyone help? -

Try changing the battery.

I encounter similar problems before, changed out the old loose SATA cable for a new more fitting one and problem solved. Can the battery on the motherboard affect the boot? I know it keeps the internal clock ticking and the personal BIOS setting but it can affect the boot?...Hmmm, battery's gonna cost me a dent in my already non-existance fundings...
It's a old comp, abt 2yrs old, almost always on for those period, think it's reached it's due? Runs on a PATA drive btw, like i said it's old (1yr younger than my dog! ). -

Ya, i also think that the battery is cheap. Less than $5 i think, and no, no beeping sound whatsoever.
