awry sound, weird problem....

Anyone ever had their computer play a song one fine day, and notice a very distinct guitar blare missing?
I can't quite explain this problem, but an entire electric-guitar riff suddenly went missing....
I don't see how this can happen, reinstalling the drivers didn't help, computer reformat worked, but the next time i booted up the problem came back....
Streak of misfortune or something.... -

reformatted again, the problem was gone but reappeared again....
careful listening, noticed other mp3s missed some beats as well.... -
