why sometimes it takes up space on my hard disk?

  im using firefox to surf the net and somehow, my hard disk space seems to be used up bit by bit. from what i know, firefox does not save any "temporary internet files" so why is this happening? even after i clear everything using the "clear private data", it still does not helps. and another question. why sometimes my hard disk space will deplete for no reason? lets say i turn on the lap top with 20gb. then on again became 19gb. it keeps jumping. another question. will any bad things happen if i compress everything on my hard disk? i mean using the "compress drive to save disk space" button. if i compress the whole C drive, will there be any side effects?

  1. Firefox does save temporary files if you don't change the default settings.
  2. Again, default settings doesn't clear much.
  
  To have hard disk space that increase and decrease on an irregular pattern, either your computer is owned, or your hard disk is going to heaven soon.

  what do you mean by computer is owned? you mean it is being owned by trojan and someone is using?

  In effect, they are actually downloading stuffs to your PC, use your PC to illegal things and remove it to prevent being tracked.
  
  Which explains why hard disk space is going up and down.
  
  Of course, that doesn't mean it's true. Irregularities do happen from time to time, and the most common reason is because of memory constraints and hardware problems.

  Wonder what is your cache limit set to if u lost 1gb of harddisk space through ff.

  it was default 50mb. but i cleared the cache.

  mayi i really rofled to this. Imagine the trauma caused to some1 who has been told that their computer got "owned" or his/her hard disk is going to heaven.. wahaha...
