Best and free anti-virus programme to dl?

The new KIS7.0 now uses heuristics scan as well. Its customizable.
For NOD32, I heard they are releasing beta version of their internet security suite.
Its better to go online and try the trial Kaspersky version, and then buy it using their competitive upgrade options using your credit card... much cheaper than going over to computer shops and spending $88 on KIS!

i have the AVG Trio of programs...spysweeper...antivirus and rootkit scanners
good stuff i must tell u...sometimes better than mcafee -
Would like to know why NAV is not a good anti-virus software. I know it takes up a lot of resources, but what other disadvantages does it have? I have been thinking of changing the software.

what i can say that none of the anti virus are perfect. so why not just choose any one and install. for my i prefer avg-free cos its free and simple.
u can try using jotti malware scan( online scan) if you are very particular about your files getting infected. -
I still recommend Avira Antivir. It's free and quite highly rated. Can go compare performance here.

I've tried the trial, great detection rates. However, I'm not going to spend money on it. They also have a free online scanner, I use that regularly, rather than purchasing their products. -
It doesn't uninstall properly. Some of them are Kaspersky, McAfee, NOD32 and F-Secure. A lot of users run into either BSOD or some other problems during installation due to incomplete installation of NAV.
Other than that, NAV is good, for newbies. Their detection rate is good, catches on the wild viruses pretty well, simple enough interface for newbies who want to protect their PC. -

how much are the student/ commercial rates if we go and buy those anti-virus program CD? like symantec, norton?

As far as all AV are concerned, only Trend Micro has a student rate. Can be bought from SingPost (the last I saw this advertisement was from SingPost). It's a lot cheaper, less than $50. AVG also has one, but your school must buy in bulk from them, not any student can just buy a student rate program from them. -
kaspersky is damn hard to crack.
For Nod it is very not user-friendly and design also not nice. The beta version is better. -
avira antivir personal edition Premium(paid version) is far more superior than NOD32 and kaspersky.

Anyone tried Bitdefender yet? $49 for its anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware. License is 2 PCs for 2 years! -

installed nod32 beta.. it almost crash my laptop..
lucky microsoft got this function call system restore.. -
Maybe you can try avast.
It updates more or less everyday, like any other paid AVs.
