Installing Win XP OEM

  can i install the OEM version of Win XP Professional on a harddisk that already has Win 2000? or do i need to format the harddisk first?

  If you want to dual boot, you will need to reformat and re-partition.
  
  If no, you can follow this site's instructions to upgrade.

  what i wanted to know is:
  when i called the shop, the guy told me that the OEM version is meant for new PCs, i.e. clean harddisks etc etc.
  so if i'm bringing over my old harddisk with an OS already present, will the OEM version refuse to install?
