My computer couldn't detect my hard disk

is a portable hard disk. and i got problem with it
i tried on alot pc. all could detect.
i wonder isit spoiled
but whenever i connect it to the pc, there's light on my
hard disk.
can anybody help me with it?
because there is some important folder's in it!
help plz -

USB? How many usb port your PC have? You tried it on other ports or just the same port? E.g. if your mouse also usb, switch the HDD and mouse ports. Maybe your mouse will stop working. Then you know the answer already.
Or your PC no enough power? Did it work before this? -

How many USB connectors does the hard disk have?
Like for mine, it has 2. One is to provide power, another one is for the hard disk. If you only plug in one, the light will light up, showing that it's working. But without enough power, you can't do anything. All two USB connectors must be connected for it to work. -
now my computer can detect the hard disk.
it got the sound and it's is shown.
but in My Computer, there isn't the drive there for me to open up my hard disk. -
Press F5 to refresh.
Or if you know the drive name, like E drive or F drive, just go to Start > Run and type in directly.
The command is X:\. Replace X with the correct letter. -
i tried E:/ F:/ G:/ to K:/ .. all couldn't find ..
i refresh already. also cannot. -
How about for other PCs?

even i go right click My Computer, manage - disk management. also couldn't find.. -
Can you see a Safely Remove Hardware near the clock? It has a green arrow.

ya. it shown that my harddisk is there.. but i could find the drive for me to open my harddisk..

Safely remove it, restart the PC.
Wait for a while, and start the PC again. And try plugging it in. -
Are you saying that now, all the PC cannot read it? Is it one of those removable drive enclosures? Check you HDD is slotted in properly. Worse come to worse, take out the drive and connect directly to PC.

I know what you mean. Normally if connection problem, either the device spoil (enclosure) or the connection no good (the USB port/cable itself damaged), you can get situation where the PC can detect something is plugged in but does not know what it is.
1) Try use different USB cable.
2) Clean out the ports.
3) If can take out the HDD, you can open your PC and plug in like any other HDD.
I hope is not your HDD spoil. -

i will take this alternative as the last option .
1 more thing . my hard disk there is light on. -
actually does windows notify you that there is a device connected that it cannot determine? If got problem there should be a balloon pop up and say something like that. Can also check in your Device Manager got any yellow question marks or not.
You can always bring the hdd to some of your friends who know how to recover data. wish u luck. -

appear for me to open up my HDD.. the rest i go check under properties.
all working fine. and i am sure is not the usb port problem. cuz i have another hard disk which is working fine..
