  if i want to watch a video clip on my DVD player, what format would i have to burn the file into (using nero)

  If it supports DivX, try burning it in .avi format.
  
  If it doesn't, look through the manual to see what formats are supported by the DVD Player.

  nero.. just choose 'make playable DVD'
