router help

  help my dad just bought a new router + modem adsl2+(SMC 2904) for some lame reason to replace my router and modem(2 diff entities- router SMC modem alcatel);. now i cant go to the net with the new rouetr + modem but i can with the old one. why???? can someone helP???

  have you done the following?
  
  IP addressing
  subnet mask
  default gateway

  for my old one... i using static ip and port forwarding because i need to host on b.net =.= so can that be a cause?
  
  somethign dumb, i cant use internet on the new router+ modem with my wired lan connection but my sis can go the net with her wireless LAN laptop. why?

  1. Connect ADSL modem to router using the modem port. See the back of the router. Make sure that when you connect, the port DOES NOT say LAN.
  
  2. Install the modem drivers, if needed.
  
  3. Restart computer.
  
  4. Login to the router and configure it. Set it to use static IP address if you need to.
