Problem with Windows Media Player on my Vaio

  Everytime i click on a video, the sound plays in the background but Windows Media Player doesnt start itself. Its only when i manually click on the player icon that the player starts, with the player playing the video.
  What is the problem ah? Any kind souls? Thanx..

  Vaio model?

  I think you check the settings @ windows media player.
  then have you tried playing it with another player like real player or quicktime?
  and is it the same for music files (wma, mp3) files when u play it on ur windows media?

  What settings on the media player should i look for?
  I dont have any other media player on my laptop, VLC player doesnt work at all. (only plays the sound).
  I am trying to play back normal video files: wmv, avi, mp4 those kind..

  If it's AVI files, you will need codecs... it's not supported natively by Windows Media Player.

  The problem is not abt codecs, i have already downloaded them and media player can play them, only that the player doesnt start when i click on the video file.

  Is it associated with the player?
  
  It's in the player options. Look around the options and will be able to find an association option. Tick the boxes so the player knows what kind of files it will play.
