Hmm u mean if it has been activated before...I cant...?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:As long as the copy of XP is brand new, meaning that it has not been activated before.
Yup. Microsoft has a clause in Vista that you can't revert back to XP, even if the copy is legitimate.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Hmm u mean if it has been activated before...I cant...?
is the clause equalavant to a law and lest break it will become illegal and unactivated?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Yup. Microsoft has a clause in Vista that you can't revert back to XP, even if the copy is legitimate.
This applies to upgraded copies of Vista. That means an activated copy of XP will break this clause.
By using an unactivated one, we can hopefully try to bypass this clause.
It doesn't break a law, however, it breaks Microsoft's terms and conditions.Originally posted by ceecookie:is the clause equalavant to a law and lest break it will become illegal and unactivated?

Ya...Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:It doesn't break a law, however, it breaks Microsoft's terms and conditions.
This clause is very anti-competitive anyway.
Well, as I've said, you could try an unactivated copy of Windows XP to bypass it. Chances are that it won't allow, because there are some detection codes which detects it.Originally posted by deathscythe99:...
TMD MS.
Anyway to get around this since I CANNOT use vista for my programs??
After beaking Microsoft's TOC,what will happen? No more windows update and suchs for the XP OS?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:It doesn't break a law, however, it breaks Microsoft's terms and conditions.

Hmms...using Linux to install.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Well, as I've said, you could try an unactivated copy of Windows XP to bypass it. Chances are that it won't allow, because there are some detection codes which detects it.
My way will be to get a Linux distribution (any one will do), format and install Linux. After this, reformat again and install XP (using a previous legitimate copy that you have to save the money buying).
That way, Vista will be gone for good.
Legit copy... most probably will be able to update... provided you are able to install first.Originally posted by ceecookie:After beaking Microsoft's TOC,what will happen? No more windows update and suchs for the XP OS?
Nothing to with Intel. It's just Vista. They don't allow XP to be installed once Vista is installed...Originally posted by deathscythe99:Wait...then 1 question.
If u format ur HDD, cant u immediately install XP?
Unless u're saying Intel did something to the Santa Rosa...

I think this worksOriginally posted by deathscythe99:Hmms.
So anyone tried before?
I did that. It's the longest way, but also the guaranteed way. Sure work. Remove Vista without it detecting XP then install XP.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Hmms.

It isn't impossible... Windows 2000 onwards can dual boot 2 copies of Windows without problems.Originally posted by deathscythe99:

Hmm...Originally posted by LazerLordz:That's why I will never use Vista. It's too much of a hassle.
Limits my choices as a user/consumer.
When XP support draws down, I'm moving over full time to OS X.
Yes, why not.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Hmm...
What if I get a Macbook, install windows there? Will applications like Autocad and Matlab for Windows work??
Hmm.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Yes, why not. It's not emulated, because you will be running XP natively.
If you don't want Linux, just take out the XP disc and format away Linux and install XP.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Hmm..
So the problems would be of drivers rite?
On a laptop...wont it be worse?
Use Bootcamp.Originally posted by deathscythe99:Hmm...
