Is IT field the most protitable?

Before I entered my poly, I was always thinking the money is in Business and Architeture.
Business because every contract can be worth up to more than $100,000 easily. Investments have the potential to bring in millions of dollars.
Then when I took up IT in Poly, I find that what I learn is really very useful and what the lecturers taught me was that everything I learn can easily be applied in a Business Company.
If I end up being a web designer, I can easily get a $500 contract or something?
Furthurmore, With the Java and Microsoft.net I would be learning, I can apply those into the website would easily bring like a $20,000 contract? Not only that. If I am proficient in those field, I can take up multiple projects at a time. Thus bringing profit level to about the same as a business contract.
But the downside for business, They tend to be part of a big or medium sized company which wold require about 10+ staffs or more.
For IT, I can work with like 3 to 4 friends and still meet deadline.
If I do not become freelance but go into a proper job. Many say IT professionals do not have business sense but what I learn in school is that they teach us the fundamentals of business. Like basic functions, How IT is implemented in Business, Financing and such.
So is what I said true or just part of my naiveness?

In my own opinion, IT professionals don't really have business sense.
What you learnt in school is really helpful.

The term IT field is very very wide.... it ranges from assembly language programmers to web page designers using MS Publisher
It rangers from accounting software developers to MYOB accounting package implementers...
So it is like asking, "Is the Civil Service field the most profitable"?

No. IT field is very dynamic, that's all I've to say. Proficiency only proves that you are able to do a certain job, but it doesn't guarantee you a job.
If you are unable to keep up with the pace of IT, you are out of the game. Also, given that outsourcing is very popular in IT, you will be one of the first to go if a company is paying you a lot. -
Do you know how many people it takes to produce a simple program nowadays to meet the standard? You think this is 30 years ago issit 3-4 ppl can produce s/w...the windows that bill gates originally wrote with a few people nobody use liao. What crack are you smoking? It may seems that it is profitable to study IT now but it may not be after 6 yrs later(which means after yr national service) -

if it don't interest you then you are just doing the job for money and u will get bored one day -
but if i earn alot of money for doing wat i not like, i can be exciting every time i'm free and lead a luxurious life. say, i earned too much after 10years and decides to semi retire while investing in stocks, property or investment plans.
