regarding partition

  any advice on partitioning a hard disk?
  
  some people creates a partition solely for the OS. Applications like Photoshop and games in another partition. Is this advisable or is it jus a matter of preference?

  advisable
  
  as when you reformat, just format the partition with the OS on it..hence you dont lose your data that you store on the other partition.

  how much space should i allocate for the OS partition? I using Win XP SP 2. is 10 gb sufficient or overkill?

  it usually takes up about 3gb for installation.
  
  Some ppl allocate 5Gb.
  
  depends if you have space to burn in your hdd
