cant burn files to CD

  i tried to burn some RAR files to a CD-R, and i got the message shown in attached pic. tried with several blank CD's, still got same thing. Last time i burn something it work ok, that was 1 month ago. btw the drive is just a CD writer drive, nothing else

  Can you try if this CD drive can still read CDs. Take any CD, music CD, VCD, etc and put it in. If it runs, good.

  go to My Computer. right click on the CD Drive. go to the Recording tab and you see some check box thing

  105090: both boxes there were checked, but still got the problem
  
  i just installed Nero, and i seem to be able to burn just fine using that, but still getting the error if i do right click then send to CD RW drive

  yes, burnt for no problems for 5+ years till now

  I think Nero has taken over MS duties. Most softwares do that, which can result in errors.
  
  Check if burning with Nero works all right.

  i installed nero after reporting the error, heard from others that the right click method is a crap way to burn files. Burning is normal if i use Nero

  Yeah... that way of burning is crap.
  
  Looks like Nero has taken over MS duties of burning your CDs, since it's burning fine.
