  It's as reliable as its warranty. Warranty says one year, you can prepare to visit Acer in one year's time.
  
  That's for about 30% of its notebooks.

  I've been using Acer for 1 year plus already. Nvr give me problem..
  
  Except for the fact that, my "P" button dropped out on 17th April 2006...
  
  RP students shld find the date familiar....

  HP is another reliable one. Asus, Sony and Fujitsu as well.

  btw any body know about the brand NEC. i saw the thread on service centre, didnt see it there. this trhead. no 1 mentioned abt NEC too. its quite a gd brand too. its no.1 in japan n comes with onsite warranty, its design is unique and quality not bad too.

  I'm using Acer too. Besides some minor problem like mic too soft, VOIP phone spoil, webcam got some problem starting up, and the CD drive always eject all of a sudden when there is no disc, I guess it's good!
  
  Mine has been working for 1.5 years now.
