I have this Linksys Router and it have a slight problem. Every connection is fine, to my 3 pcs at home. But whenever i switch off the main power for both Router and Modem during the night (Save electricity) and power on them in the morning, the Internet can't work. These things happen
1. Local Area Network Shows Connected. 2. Unable to Browse Internet Explorer nor able to sign in MSN 3. MSN self build repair shows DSN Failure
I tried these stuffs myself
1. Ping from MSDOS fails 2. Able to Ping from Router itself (logged into router) (Strange rite?) 3. Direct Cable connections from modem to 1 com, Internet Connection resume.
After many tried, I have to Restore Factory Setting for my router in order to get back all my connections working for my 3 coms. Anyone know whats the problem cause? Even until now, this still happens whenever i power off and on my Main Switch for the Router and Modem.
Thx for viewing ^^

You are not connected to the Internet. Log in to the router, navigate around the settings. See if there's any button for you to click to connect to the Internet.
Also, change the settings to keep your internet connections alive even if you are not using it or when it's turned off. Most routers set this to time out after 10 minutes of no usage or upon turning off the router.
Also, routers take some time to start up and connect to your ISP. Typically, this takes about 5 minutes. If your computer finished starting up in less than 5 minutes, wait longer before trying again.

Its definately more than 5 mins, and how come i can still ping to website via Router when its disconnected from Internet as you have stated?
ndmmxiaomayi
Of course you are able to ping the router despite it being on the web. That's because it's within your own network. Your router's IP address is a private IP address; as long as you are within your own network, it's possible to ping it.
You will not being able to ping sites such as Google.

Sorry, I am able to ping to website. I tried with Yahoo.com and 5 packet send and recieved.
But i can't ping to yahoo using MS DOS.
Strange rite?
ndmmxiaomayi
Huh? What you mean?
CasperX
I mean,
I try Ping to Yahoo.com using msdos, fail
But Ping to yahoo by logging into Router and Ping, Pass
ndmmxiaomayi
That is weird.
Do you use a firewall? And can you access Yahoo! website using Internet Explorer or whatever browser that you are currently using?
CasperX
Windows Firewall loh... No, i can't access to yahoo.com using explorer.
The only thing i can do is to Restore Factory Setting by logging into the router, then this problem solve. But not permenently
ndmmxiaomayi
Hmm... can you try turning off the firewall and try?
