laptop RAM upgrade

can i diy? or must i send to the company to do it? cos if i diy the warranty will be void right? what are the charges like? i'm using acer aspire and RAM's DDR2. any recommendations?

If warranty is still applicable, I would just recommend you go to their official helpdesk and upgrade. -

and if i want to upgrade to at least 1.5gb, and i have two slots in my laptop both with 512mb, what do i do? -
1 slot 1GB, the other slot 512MB
For Acer, go Acer Service Centre at Jurong East. The sticky here provides the different addresses to the different helpdesks available in Singapore. -

Actualy dun need to worry abt warrenty,if u dont mind keeping ur old ram,then when u need to send for repair then just replace back to old one so the Acer tech wont suspect anything. -
BTW i dont really recommend "unequal" RAMs capacity as u wont get Dual Channel as a result.

Laptop and PC ram is diff also and not interchangable,dont mix em up. -

Yes second hand rams should be fine as rams pretty reliable.Stick to Kingston as they have lifetime warrently.Try to buy as new as possible,a few months is ideal. -

DDR ram(1gb)> more ex, why? because stock is little, demand is still there for old models. can go up to $100+ for a DDR ram
DDR2 ram(1gb)> cheap can get from ard $55+ (it show) -$70, $75 (simlim)
self upgrade from simlim.
for acer notebook, dun worry that it will void ur warranty, they will understand that u upgraded your ram. dun worry even if they refuse to warrant ur RAM, because ram itself normally comes with warranty and RAM DONT spoil easily, u can reuse for 10 yrs also no prob. i jus bought a 1gb ram from simlim ytd @ $75, cause the shop that sell $70 ran out of stock. my colleague at simlim offer me $65 but he didnt bring, have to wait till today, too troublesome.
