DVD drive

my DVD drive used to be able to write over DVD-R and now i can't seem to read the new DVD-R discs
strangely..that the drive is able to read DVD-R disc but unable to detect new ones...i just bought 2 imitaion and sony dvd-r cd from popular and all 4 can't be detected (once placed in drive..will only read CD drive -> Free space and Total space = 0 bytes)
- i reformatted my computer recently
- i downloaded the latest firmware for the drive
arrgh...i can't think of anything else that i haven done -

Most probably its due to compatibility issues or there might have been some problem during the writing process. If you have not written anything on the DVD-r discs it will all read 0. Right now i am testing one blank DVD disc on my always good DVD writer and its the same. Please give us your optical drive's manufacturer and model number with the last updated firmware version so that we can help to check if its compatible with your Imation and Sony discs. DVD or CD? Or both?
And read the CD drive means? I take it as it has no problems with reading CDs?

driver version : 5.1.2535.0
-been updated with latest driver
-is able to read both DVD-R and CD discs..however once a blank dvd-r is inserted..it will show
CD-ROM drive
Free space: 0 bytes
Total space : 0 bytes

Check that the Master/Slave/Cable Select settings. Use Cable Select if you are using Cable Select for your hard disk. If your hard disk is using Master, try setting the DVD drive to Slave.
Also, if you have a spare PC, switch it over and see it works properly.
None works... then... ask Samsung. -
Just write something onthe DVD media and you will not see 0 bytes ever again. immediately after write try reading off the media to see if data can be retrieved or media can playback. then keep the backup media in a cool, dry and dust free area.Originally posted by StarPuppy:ok..ok..
