Any IT Guru Can Guide Me?

I wanted to switch from Pacnet to Starhub. However, my friend advised me not to as they mentioned a case whereby some IT company (Odix or something) had 'forced' Starhub to reveal information of its subscribers?
He told me it's a case of illegal d/l of anime? Pardon my ignorance. How does one d/l anime?? Does it mean those like 2mb+ short clips? or? How can those that dl short clips be fined so high? What does anime means and how does it involve the company? The way my friend described is like so vague and dangerous. If one never downloads anime illegally, will any other info be disclosed then? Any gurus wish to update me?

1. That company name is ODEX.
2. ODEX is in the process of getting court orders to get PacNet to submit all relevant data. No ISPs will be spared.
3. You can ask your friend; however, if you are caught, that's none of our business and his business.
4. As long as those short clips are not legal, you can be sure ODEX will be right after you.
5. Don't ask us, ask ODEX.
6. Anime is animated cartoons from Japan.
7. How it involves ODEX, because they are selling anime.
8. If you never download, you are safe. However, if you use P2P to download other stuffs such as copyrighted music, don't ever think you will be spared. Data gleaned by ODEX can be used by RIAS to sue you as well.
And the last thing, please check Club Otaku sub forum for more details. There are 23 pages worth of data to read, all are very relevant.
Lastly, do read the thread by LazerLordz regarding the laws issue. 2 pages, not that much. Hopefully it provides enough insights. -

Thank you for your reply. What is P2P? Sorry for my ignorance. I thought dl means right click then 'save as'? Anime is those japanese cartoons? Is it those perverted cartoons? How can a Singpore company sell those and catch those?
So that means if neva dl music/anime it's safe? Cos I am worried that my online privacy such as online banking will be compromised? I always carry out internet banking and worried that my info may be disclosed to companies? -

I think anime fans may beg to differ. I don't watch anime, I won't say on this.

As long as you do nothing illegal, everything is fine. However, since you carry out online banking, I suggest you keep your computer squeaky clean, otherwise it will be the hackers seeing your online data, not your ISPs. -
