Sansa Portable player not recognised?

  Hi all!
  
  I've a problem with my Sansa c250 MP3 player...Apparently my laptop (XP/SP2) does not recognise the mp3 player and I cannot get it to copy the songs into it, as all I can see are DAT files.
  
  However, on another desktop (XP/SP2) the mp3 player is listed as a portable device..
  
  Any help?? Urgent..
