PC restarts after Windows Icon appear

  just need an opinion...
  Currently my super ancient Compaq Deskpro keeps restarting after that "windows-xp-with-knightrider bar at the bottom screen"
  
  What i suspect is either...
  MBR got corrupted...
  Power supply faulty...
  Maybe even a motherboard fault..
  Or maybe its time to bury the pc...
  
  anyone got any other assumptions?

  What is this? Is it the original Windows logo with the blue moving bar?

  Basically, what you listed, although I don't think PSU can cause that. Not right now though.
  
  Anyway, can you boot into Safe Mode? If yes, then it's probably the registry or some files that went haywire, causing Windows not to boot properly in Normal Mode.

  nope...safe mode also cannot....maybe its the power supply not giving enuff power or some electrical problem...or worse...hard disk gone case liao

  You can start from software first... try repairing Windows, if it's not possible, then reformat and reinstall. Still no possible, then look at the hardware.
