Virus Detected in Laptop

It says that the virus is in my operating memory and I need to do a boot scan. Right now it is being deactivated and it says if I want to get rid of it, I must do the scan. But when I try to do the boot scan, it says that I do not have the permission to do so
Now when I restart my comp it will go to the boot scan page, then the scanning process will get terminated suddenly.
How to get rid of this virus? -

What gave that error message? Your anti-virus program?
Boot to Safe Mode and try running the scan from there. -

can give somemore info? wat told u got virus in ur laptop? does it tell u wat virus it is? how did u find out in the first place? any idea how u got infected?

Boot to Safe Mode and try running the scan from there.
I am using avast!, version 4.7 (supposedly the latest version) -
Safe Mode disables all programs from running other than critical windows services, so if a virus/spyware is preventing Avast from running properly, booting to Safe Mode to run the scan is the way to go.

It doesn't tell me what kind of virus it is. It simply says that I am infected and asked me to do a boot scan.
