cant use msn messenger

  i keep getting a message that i have to upgrade my msn messenger whenever i try to open it, or else i cant log in.
  
  anyone know how to bypass this, coz my com lags quite a lot with windows live messenger running, but with msn 7 or 7.5, it is ok.

  Try downgrading yourself from administrator to a normal user.

  Same prob here. After upgrading it I was still unable to use it. A msg 'you were unable to start a conversation with....' keeps appearing each time i tried to initiate a conversation with anyone on my contactlist n vice versa. Now I have downgraded back to 7.5ver but however tt stupid msg keeps appearing, telling me to upgrade to windows Live in order to proceed. Really hope there will be a solution to tis, haix...

  If you are admin, it will stop you from logging in. If you are not, you can't install, so you can log in. That's the only way I know how to bypass. Downgrade yourself from a user with admin powers to a user with no admin powers.

  Alrite, I shall give it a try, thanx for the reply. Thing is, it has been working perfectly fine all along till wed night den yesterday morning tis prob start happening...

  This is just MS doing. They do this for every major upgrade of software they have.

  theres an article on the main page providing a link to an "updated" msn 7
  
  download that then install. then u have to find the msnmsgr.exe file ( go to the msn messenger folder through program files) and right click it, go to compatibility tab, check the box and choose run in compatibility mode for windows 2000.
