i need a new hdd for desktop

i've got 3 HDD in my com now totalling 960GB (320x3) and i'm left with around 35GB.
Planning on getting a new one.
my questions:
1.) shud i get the cheaper samsung/hitachi or the more ex. seagate/Western digital? what is the difference anyway?
2.) does a 500gb hdd take up mroe electricity than say, a 250gb one?
3.) since i've already got 3 hdd, if i put in one more will it cause my com to slow down as inadequate power is supplied? i'm nt sure but i think my com has 400w power supply
4.) shud i get a high space hdd (500) or a low one(250)?
5.) any recommendations? (not raptors those are damn expensive.) -
960gb n u can use till left 35gb!!!
hdd, nt much diff la, for the same size the wattage normally nt v diff. anyway. i think for u, try get those v big terabyte drives. think u will want the space.
as for power wise, dont think it should be much of a problem la, shld have enough headroom.
only thing is the price. depends hw much u wan to pay. 1tb is gonna come at a high price. but the 500gb ones are about 200+.
imp thing is, how many more drives can ur board support, whether ide or sata, there will be a limit. since u use 3 le, maybe 1 more if ide. -
I recommend Seagate over WD.
I have both.
Lets say 100 Gb each, for WD, only 88Gb are usable while for Seagate, 95Gb are usable. -

anyway if ur 960GB doesnt include backups...I suggest U start thinking about it....HDDs can and do crashes.

Oh...and 1 more thing...with the 4th HDD...U are crossing into TB range...dunno if ur mobo can support or not. -
mine is a intel DP965LT motherboard w/ intel core 2 duo. i think should be able to support TB rite....it's quite a new com.( abt 5 mths old). and no, i'm not experienced, 1 hdd came with the com, 2 were bought by my dad, and since i use the bulk of the 960gb he told me to buy a new one myself.Originally posted by Xcert:U are using 3HDDs....should be quite experienced with HDD buying already right?

1x350GB Primary(C: ),2x 350GB Backups(D: , E: )?
how come u back up more than ur primary?or U have 2 backups?
why dont U simply reassign 1 backup HDDs as additional primary storage(D: )...then use the remaining 1x350GB as backup (E: )...then U dun have to buy another HDD.
if ur problem is with too much programs installed in C:,then U can use D: also....just make sure U dont install all ur programs into C:\Program Files anymore....U can also install to D:\Program Files.
Anyway I feel that there is a difference between backing up to HDD and backing up to other removable media like DVDs....if U dont need ur backup data that often...why not burn and store them elsewhere?
or am I not seeing the correct picture? -
now I wonder how I survived with 60gb hard disk and a 100 gb portable hard disk

my backups are on both slave HDDs, i have alot of songs(around 50gb worth), movies(at least 400gb i think- all HD) and the like. and my backups include 2 other com's data(those are more prone to crash)

Total about 700GB
400GB gone to movies, about 300GB left
50GB gone to songs, about 250GB left
I assume "the likes" have taken the rest of the 250GB?
Can you try clearing your temp files and cache. One client I had never cleared his temp and cache. After I cleared them (3GB worth ), from a 20GB HDD, he now has about 4GB left.
Use ATF Cleaner or CCleaner. -
how about getting a ext hdd to backup your movies?

I think most DVD-/+ r are reliable backing up medium. I have a total of over 1 TB of hard disk storage in my systems (80ext + 80 + 200 + 250 +500) and over 30++ 4.7gig DVD+/-r as backup and i don't see a problem big enough yet.
