Mega pix of video cam vs digital camera

  Why is it that digital camera mega pix can be very high like 10MP but video camera the max is abt 3MP?
  
  Many cam recorder MP is < 1 , but is it good enough for video capturing ?

  lol i dont think got space to store a video clip if a video cam would be 10mega pix
