Hi,
Can anyone teach me how to back-up my contacts in MS Outlook?
I'm thinking of formatting my harddisk and re-installing back the OS but I know all my contacts in MS Outlook will be gone.
Is there a file which I can copy and save into another harddisk prior my formatting my harddisk?
Also, is there a way which I can save my Mozilla Firefox's Favourites into a file?
Many thanx!!!
You can backup your bookmarks in Firefox.
1. Open Firefox
2. Click on Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks
3. In the new window that opens, click on File > Export
4. Save it to an external hard disk or thumbdrive.
When you need it again, repeat steps 1 to 3. In Step 4, click on File > Import to import the bookmark file.
As for backing up MS Outlook Address Book, try this:
1. If you are running Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98: Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
If you are running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me): Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
2. Type *.pab, click My Computer in the Look In box, and then click Find Now.
To restore it:
1. Close any message-related programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, or Windows Messaging.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click the Mail icon.
4. Click the Show Profiles button.
5. Click the appropriate profile, and then click Properties
6. Click the Email Accounts button.
7. Click Add a New Directory or Address Book, and then click Next
8. Click Additional Address Books, and then click Next.
9. Click Personal Address Book, and then click Next.
10. Type the path and the name of the Personal Address Book file that you want to restore, click Apply, and then click OK.
11. Click Close, and click then OK.
bro, i did as what you said but my search for "*.pab" in My Computer or C:\ yield no match. Could you advice where I go wrong?
I'm using Windows XP Home and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (Students and Teachers)
Hmm... how about this method:
1. File > Import and Export
2. Select Export to a file. Click Next
3. Select Personal Folder File (.pst). Click Next.
4. Click on the + sign to expand Personal Folders. Select Contacts and tick the Include subfolders box.
5. By default, it will save to C:\Documents and Settings\Your username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\backup.pst. If you want to change it, click on Browse and browse to where you want to save it.
6. If you have duplicate items there, select Allow duplicate items to be created. Otherwise, leave it as default. Click Finish.
Copy and paste this backup.pst file to a thumbdrive or external hard disk. After you reinstall Outlook, do the following to get your contacts back:
1. File > Import and Export
2. Select Import from another file or program. Click Next.
3. Select Personal Folder File (.pst). Click Next.
4. Browse to where you save the backup.pst file.
5. If you have duplicate items there, select Allow duplicate items to be created. Otherwise, leave it as default.
6. Click on the + sign to expand Personal Folders. Select Contacts. Tick the Include subfolders box.
7. Select Import into current folder or to another folder which you want. Click Finish.

Your contacts are safe and can be transferred to any computer anywhere in the world as long as you have access to the internet...
