Networking question

  hmm i'm running a wireless lan in my house. and i set my computer IP and DNS to be set dynamically.
  
  so i guess that means the router would do all the work of allocating ip addresses right, which means i get a new ip everytime i reboot?
  
  the only ip address which is static is the router gateway, right? let say its 192.168.1.123
  
  so the question now is if i want to set it to manual, so that i can keep changing my own ip address , how do i do it?
  
  and is it possible to change my router gateway ip?

  another thing, when i type ipconfig /release
  
  then i renew the ip address, why the ip address stays the same?

  router admin pages shld have the setting to assign static to ur device/MAC address.
  
  router's are normally 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254.

  ok, so if i'm setting to static, i've to adhere to the subnet and ip range for each class of address etc right?

  If there's no other computers to get an IP address from the router, the router will automatically assign the next IP address that is not in use, set according to your preferences.

  yes u can change ur gateway IP.

  right click ur active network adapter>INternet protocol TCP/IP
  
  use the following Ip address desired.
  use the DNS server IP(usually same as router IP)
