"CMOS Checksum Bad" Problem

Hi all.
I have been lurking here for quite sometime.
I encountered a problem today when i switch on my desktop.
My Desktop was built by my cousin's friend.
This morning when i was using the desktop the screen on my 5 year on CRT Monitor suddenly went black although the CPU is still moving.
Then i press the button on the CPU for about 10 seconds to switch it off.Then i switch the desktop on again.The CPU got light and moving but nothing appeared on the Monitor.
After awhile of trying the screen got back on and everything went as normal until i got "CMOS Checksum Bad" and would not continue to boot to windows it only allowed me to press F1 or F2 to go the CMOS configuration and some other thing. I called up my cousin friend and he told me to go to F1 then select save and exit.He told me after that should have no problem.
Then awhile later i try to switch on the PC again i got the CMOS CheckSum Bad thing again and i press F1 and save and exit.Then everything load as normal again until i got the Windows did not shut down successfully message. Then i go select start windows normally.Then the thing hanged.Cannot press enter at all. Then i switch off using the button on the CPU.
Now i try switching it on again and there is light at the CPU but nothing on the monitor.
So can anyone help me with my problem?
Is it the Monitor spoil or something wrong with the CPU?
PS: Sorry, i am abit long winded -
1. Bad piece of RAM. Take out all RAM pieces and leave at least 1. Start up the PC. No errors, slot in another. If you run into errors, take out this piece and slot into another slot. If there's no error, slot in another piece and repeat the test. If all RAM pieces are working properly, then see step 2.
2. Reset your CMOS settings. Either take out the CMOS battery or play around with the jumper settings. Check your motherboard manual for resetting the CMOS settings.
3. Update your BIOS. Find out who's your motherboard manufacturer, download the latest BIOS and flash it. If you are unsure, ask somebody who knows to do it.
4. Above 3 don't work, change the CMOS battery. -

Erm i dun think is problem number 1 as this desktop was built 4 days ago.
I think the is either problem 2 or 3.
But i dun dare to play around. I scare i might spoilt the thing further. So i think i call that computer guy tonight and ask him to help me reset CMOS setting.

As a temporary measure, get into BIOS and set it to load Fail-Safe Defaults. It can temporary solve problems, but not for long.

Problem fixed
That dude told me something conflict between the 2 rams.

I'm facing this same problem since last nite. Each time I try to play CS-Steam logon, pc automatic reset and screen will shows CMOS not set, date/time not set. I check the battery as mention above- its a new m/b. I bought it only last month. RAM is 1 Gb. I removed and insert the RAM again. Start up my pc. Shows the same thing. aiyo. sian 1/2 now.

I don't think he'll be able to reach Step 3.
Step 2, theres another way. Either take out the battery and leave for an hour or so.
I remember a quicker way to do this. Need a 10ohm resistor to short the battery connectors.
Usually done when we need to gain quick access against a BIOS password-ed computer and being detected isn't critical. -
Ok. Problem solved. But why suddenly my pc encounter this problem as the RAM and battery ( M/B ) is new. I am using Patriot 1Gb ram.

How did you solve?
I presume you changed some hardware?
98% of the hardware are fine, 2% are manufacturing faults.
You are the unlucky 2% that are using spoilt new hardware.
Otherwise... someone substituted new for old, that's why you run into problems.
