I have a modem. Now that i just bought my new comp,i think i need connection sharer? I think it is called a router? If so, how much is a average router?
Wired ones costs less than $60. Wireless ones will cost more.
there's an exisiting thread of similar question...wanna merge?
Mods got no merging powers. I wonder if this function exists though.

we have lost our delete powers too.![]()
If you plan to locate your computers in 2 diff rooms, I do suggest getting a wireless one, so that you can place both computers in different rooms, rather than buying a long long long rj45 (modem cable) cable to connect the coms.
however, this will mean occuring extra costs of buying wireless adaptor(s) - about $3x each.
and do note that wireless modem speeds are slower.
hmm I will prolly get a wired one then... maybe buying at the pc show
mine here 3coms shared 1 router..![]()

Erm, I got a question here...
Let's say my internet connection is not wireless... I'm using a modem and I wish to make it wireless so that I can surf the net with 2 computers at the same time... I just buy a router will do? Just buy router = wireless??
Routers don't mean wireless automatically. Wireless routers are then wireless.
Routers alone can't provide internet access, because their function is like their name. They only route, and nothing else.
Lai lai, read here - http://computer.howstuffworks.com/router.htm
Before buying anything, details are needed. While most routers are able to support both ADSL and cable connections, but without details of any kind, you will regret if things don't work out.
Who is your ISP? Starhub, Singnet or Pacnet?
Do you want your two computers to surf wirelessly, or one wired, one wireless?
How confident are you with your computers? Such as installing drivers? Or you prefer plug and play kind? Plug in, automatic install, and start using?
wired is cheaper and faster. why get wireless? lol the wire can be hidden along the corners of the walls.

Well, my router is in the living room. Most of the computers are in the bedrooms. If I wanted to run cabling, I would have to get the cabling professionally done. Otherwise, the cables would have to go into the room through the door.
Wired is cheaper and faster. However my internet link is only 8Mbps at most (and that hardly ever happens). I seldom transfer files from one computer to another so 11Mbps - 50Mbps wireless LAN speeds are more than enough for me.
Also the price difference between a wireless router vs a normal wired only router is about $30 or so and you get the flexibility of having both wired and wireless available.
I vote for wireless. ;)
802.11n is 300Mbps, provided you're in an N-only network and/or using the 5GHz frequency.
so it's quite fast in my opinon rather than the 54mbps capped at 802.11g running at 2.4Ghz
Fast, but internet bandwidth your ISP give hor. Best only in LAN situation.
