Hey all..I've a quirky problem here.
There was an accident on the computer where I acceidentally deleted some setup files. Thus, I need to reformat my computer.
When testing for normal setup to Windows XP, after going through the RAID/SATA checks and DMI checks, nothing is seen on the screen.
Therefore, I decided to do a reformat using the XP cd. However, after the screen where it says "XP is inspecting your system's hardware" or smth liddat, the screen goes blank.
System hardware seems fine. All fans running, no error sounds or anything.
What could be the possible problem here? Thanks.
On another note, on my other desktop, if the motherboard AGP fan does not work...does it mean I shld change a new mobo? Thanks. On top of that...the bootup sequence stops at:
"verifying DMI pool data.."
Help is appreciated! If Mobo spoilt I will go to IT fair get a new set. hahaha.
Ahems...anyone?
Thanks for the links!
However, I cannot install the partition utility on the first desktop (above post)...how should I do so then?
Hmmm guess I have to remake the MBR for the 2nd desktop today?
Since got Windows XP installation CD... just boot to Recovery Console and type in fixmbr and press Enter.
I would advise caution when doing this... we've got no idea what is wrong with the PC at all...

Weird. But it cant even get past that screen, meaning it stops dead right after "inspecting hardware configuration"
Cant get into Windows Setup or Recovery Console.
Diskettes?? =( No drives...
No diskettes burn to CD.

Wait ah.
So I burn the diskettes for XP Setup? Right? Delete the boot records or just fdisk /mbr?
If you use XP Setup Disk as provided by MS, you only need to use fixmbr command. Shouldn't be an issue to get to the Recovery Console if you use the files by MS.
If others... not so sure. Been quite some time since I touch a Win 9x machine.
These files are provided by MS to install the Recovery Console. Do it on a spare PC if you can't boot up your current PC.
Will do so. Thanks.
If there're more queries can I post here? Thanks mayi and GIB!
(i hate troubleshooting. lol)
